Flags at Half Staff After Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy Passed Away
He originally came to work for the Sheriff’s Office in 1971 as a correctional officer. He was promoted to Sheriff’s Deputy in 1973. He then took a break from law enforcement. In 2002, Stone was hired by Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office as an Investigator. Then in 2011 retired from there and hired on again with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
The County of Humboldt posted the following information on their Facebook page:
The county is lowering its flags to half staff immediately in honor of Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Mike Stone. He has passed away and flags will remain at half staff until Friday June 16th. We cannot thank you enough for your service to our community, Deputy Stone.

Thank you to Deputy Stone for his service. We deeply appreciate the bravery of our Deputies! May his family find peace.
Terrible news. I worked with Mike for many years and he was a good cop and a fine man.
May he rest in peace!
A good man. He always remembered the birthdays of the sheriff’s clerks (that’s what we were back in the olden days) RIP
Mike, Thank You for your time and your knowledge on our arson cases that had resulted in prosecution! You served the County well! RIP Mike and Thank You for spending the time with me.
Rest in Peace, Mike. You were a decent man, a good peace officer, a solid friend and will be missed. I truly enjoyed knowing and working with you. My thoughts are with your family. You’ve done a good job.
RIP
Thank you for your service to the community, RIP.
Mike graduated with me at VPHS he was a great person and a great friend. I will miss him. It is great to read these comments about Mikes character and what a great help to the community he was
It is so comforting to read these wonderful comments. Mike truly loved all who pulled together in law enforcement to work together and get the job done.
Rick D. I always thought Mike started his law enforcement career, clearing the smokers out of the “Boy’s” restroom at VPHS. Funny to think about years later😘
And this is why I will never give up on Humboldt county the best part of this place is not its scenery or arts and culture its the people…who actually care..lived all over this country only place else that’s like that is Alaska ..my deepest sympathies for the family and I hope when I go it will be right here too
Mike will be greatly missed . He had such a passion for everything he did in life. One thing he loved was being a cop and Mike was the guy who you always wanted as your backup on the street. Sad sad moment yesterday for many of us – when we heard the news. RIP my friend and know you won’t be forgotten. Sending heartfelt condolences to his family. Chris and Bill Cook
