[UPDATE] Over 4000 Without Power in Eureka Area After Major Equipment Failure

Over 4000 people are vainly flicking their light switches every time they enter a room after a major equipment failure in the Eureka area left them without power.

According to Deanna Contreras, a PG&E spokesperson,

[C]rews are working safely and quickly as possible to restore power to 4,076 customers in Eureka.  A piece of equipment at our substation on Harris Street failed, causing the outage at approximately 12:30.  We’re still looking into the cause. I’ll let you know ASAP when I have it.  Crews are repairing the piece of equipment right now and power should be restored within 30 minutes. [Approximately 2:20 p.m.]

UPDATE: Power back on.
