Search of 65-Year-Old Yields Heroin and Meth, Says EPD
This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 05/31/17, at about 1:45 PM, a detective with the Eureka Police Department’s plainclothes Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) was looking for a wanted felony warrant suspect he’d just observed in the vicinity of 3rd and C Streets, Eureka. When the detective entered the common hallway of a nearby apartment building located on the 200 block of 3rd Street, he saw 65-year old Eureka resident Danny Herring sitting in [a] chair. He was familiar with Herring from prior law enforcement-related contacts.
Herring was openly smoking from a methamphetamine pipe, which he unsuccessfully tried to conceal from the detective in a nearby trashcan. After retrieving the pipe, the detective detained and searched Herring for additional contraband. Inside Herring’s pockets, the detective located a small quantity of methamphetamine, a plastic bag containing over one ounce of black tar heroin, and 4 smaller bindles of heroin individually packaged for sale.
Herron was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of heroin for sale. (Herring was not the warrant suspect the detective was originally seeking.)
Anyone with information concerning suspected narcotics related crime occurring in the City of Eureka is encouraged to call the Problem Oriented Policing Unit at (707) 441-4373, or the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at (707) 444-8095.

Good pop, POP!
Now the taxpayers can finance his elder care.
Is this the best thing the EPD can find to do? Thanks for marginally harassing this drug abuser. I am sure he won’t EVER do it again… Maybe go after some of those drunk drivers in Drunkreka instead…
Clearly Denouement has never lost a friend or loved one to an OD. Sale is more than just abuse…
Please don’t assume things you can’t possibly know. If I found you overdosed, I would give you a shot of naloxone. Just had my training and I carry my kit.
The senior citizen in this story is a good example of what not to do. If you shoot pure poison into your veins, bad things could happen. I just don’t think that addicts are a good investment of the public’s money, especially when they are small time and not doing too well. It is no fun watching these folks die in the hospital, whether quickly from overdoses or Carfentanil, or slowly from Hepatitis C.
Be careful out there!
We had that guy shooting up on the boardwalk, that really upset the community. Addicts are getting ballsy and think they can smoke or do meth anywhere they want..we need more officers walking or riding bikes in old town..
.
In reality eureka needs a round up and clean sweep, either shoot them,to the moon or stick them into fema work camps. Or did you think its freedom o’clock?
Typical cop s lets mess with the addicts .Try going after the main line supplyers .That why there is ,so many addicts ,yet they are randomly catching tweekers heroin junkies in broad day light .
Funny folks on here complaining about this guy being arrested. Guess the bags for sale doesn’t matter.
HUMBOLDT COUNTY really needs a methadone clinic, there are so many addicts out there who would love to be able to get off heroine, just think about how much of the crime problem could be resolved if we gave addicts some proven help.
Aegis recovery is keen to open a methadone clinic. It’s long over due. But wait… Then open door no longer has a MONOPOLY on treatment for addicts…
