Good Samaritan Disarms Suspect Attempting to Rob Hoopa Business

On Thursday, May 18, 2017 at about 0717 hours, The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office along with the California Highway Patrol and the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police responded to a business on Highway 96, in Hoopa for a report of an armed robbery.
Once on scene, Deputies learned that a Good Samaritan intervened during the course of the robbery, taking the suspect to the ground and disarming him. The suspect was reported to have fled the scene on a bicycle towards Orcutt’s Trailer park. Law enforcement conducted a foot patrol of the area and was unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as an unknown race male, 5’-10” to 6’0”, thin-build, wearing blue jeans, dark blue or black hooded jacket, with a mask over his face. The firearm used was a realistic looking BB gun. This case is still under investigation.
