Help Stamp Out Hunger With a Simple Bag of Food

Tomorrow, Marianne Odisio will drive her rural postal route in Southern Humboldt. She’s a contractor who helps get mail to and from remote homes. Tomorrow though, she’ll also be picking up bags of non-perishable food that residents can choose to leave by their mailboxes as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Most postal workers throughout the United States are participating even many, such as Odisio, who work very rural areas.

According to Odisio, “People can bring canned food items into the post office, or leave them in a bag out next to their mailbox on this Saturday. And I would like to remind people to check expiration dates on canned food- any food past the expiration date should be thrown away, not donated.”

All the food gathered will stay in their local communities to be used to meet the needs in the area in which it was collected.

Want to help? Tomorrow, pack some non-perishable food–like canned food, pasta, peanut butter, beans, oatmeal, olive oil, etc.–into a bag and set by your mailbox before your letter carrier gets there.

Got questions? Here’s a bunch of answers.

Every office weighs how much food they collect. Will your Post Office collect the most pounds of food?
Marianne works really hard and is proud of the job she does and how she takes care of all her customers.
Remember to put out your canned, non-perishable food on Saturday. The heavier the better.
