[UPDATE 2:30 p.m.] UltraLight Plane Crashes in Eel Near McCann; Rescuers Search for Local Pilot

Around 11 a.m. an Ultralight plane crashed into the main stem of the Eel River near McCann roughly east of Weott. According to Supervisor Estelle Fennell the plane was located fairly quickly “in bushes at the side of the river.” However, she said, “They did not find the pilot.”

Fennell said the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department is bringing a boat to the site in case the pilot went into the river.

Fennell confirmed the pilot is believed to be local.
Below is an embedded map of the McCann area.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: According to a family member, there are about 30 searchers as well as the Coast Guard and Search and Rescue looking for the pilot.

Why don’t you go volunteer to do some stories if you can do so much better. The internet is hard to keep up with, kym Kemp even more so, which is a good thing, but they mostly do stories that kym has covered during her day time and not everyone has internet or vice versa. You older generation naggers on haters on here is really disheartening and sad.

Just because I write slower at 70 only means I edit as I write and get the story right!

I did for many years until the current staff came on board. The new ladies are poor journalists in my opinion.

well, i hope whenyou did write stories that used more nouns that this example. who wanted to argue about what? or did they simply question your version of facts? if so, that would make them better not worse journalists. so in other words, if you are going to throw dirt, at least be clear and concise in your dirt throwing

Hi Kym, any word on whether they have found the pilot or not or whether they are still out there looking?

Kind of makes you wonder if the pilot fell out of the craft while it was in the air.

Seamus I think the same thing .I said in the other post look in the trees if he fell out or jumped he might be in the top of a redwood tree I hope this is not the case

The pilot, likely being an adventurist sort, would know to stay at the scene of the wreck; It being easier to spot than an individual. Sounds like he bailed. Good luck.

Please comment about the reporting elsewhere. This is a dear friends uncle. They’re out looking and exhausted. He is an experience pilot. Ex veitnam vet. #FindRex
