Timmy Thompson: ‘A man of the river’
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you? Pet remembrances are also welcome.
Timmy was born at Seaside Hospital Crescent City, to Archie Sr. and Alta Thompson, graduated from Del Norte, and married Glenna Mendez on May 1, 1990. Throughout his life he worked many jobs varying from a maintenance worker for the National Parks, a commercial fisherman in Alaska to most recently a Yurok River Ferry Captain. But Timmy’s lifelong career was truly spent as a Yurok Fisherman, providing for his family in the traditional way.
Timmy loved God and preaching the word, making a joyful sound unto the lord by playing various instruments. He loved his children and gave his heart to his family. He enjoyed baseball and boxing. A man of the river, he was at peace when he was on the Klamath at the land. His entertaining character and unique joyful laughter made him a delight for everyone he encountered. He now joins his heavenly father into eternal life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Archie Sr. and Alta Thompson, sister Valerie Ann, nieces and nephews Delmar, Redsky, Sarina, Lil’ Tom, Miranda, Lorenzo and Stormy.
He is survived by his siblings Archie Jr., Debbie, Randy (Kathy), Sherry (Thomas O’Rourke), Trudy, Willie (Melanie). Children Bobby, Lilly (Anthony), Pete (Vlayne), Alta (Jay), Ira (Cheyenne). Grandchildren Angelina, MaryJane, Lilly, Phoenix, Denise, Eli, Anthony Jr., Wer-erp, Sequoya, Trent, P.J., Wau-Tec, Ira, Kagama, Benjamin, Neee-Gem, Kyra, and Rayona.
Pallbearers Pete and Ira Thompson, Bobby Mendez, Sundance Rojas, Jai Kibby, Willard, Pergish, Will-Bear and Mike Carlson, Daniel Whitehurst, Jeremy Thompson, and Buck Scott.
Honorary pallbearers Dwight Bennett, Keith Mendez, David Severns, Paul Beal, Scott Trombetti, Denis Whitehurst Sr., Ricky Dowd Jr. and Frank Rojas.
A visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Friday, March 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Services are open to everyone and will be held at the Yurok Tribal Office, Saturday at noon, potluck and fellowship to follow.
Flowers and Donations may be made at Vlayne’s place: 125 Klamath Blvd., Klamath.

REST IN PEACE!!
I’m so sorry, nice person. This is such a tragedy, but I hope the family can find some peace.
So very sad for the Native American community. Prayers for the whole family.
Very young, hope his family and friends can find some peace.
i m very sad about this , not only that but not this page but other article s about this, hate crime are being made into raccist jokes. please help stop race crimes. native people and especially native women have been the victims for far too long. it saddens me that i feel i have done enough to protect our women. from such horrors. did you know more native women way more likely abused than any race in the America’s. more likely too be murdered and never find the person who did it. that native americans have highest rate to commit suicide. im yurok tribal member, im 28 raised humboldt hate pool.
My condolences to the family and friends of Timmy Thompson. It’s a horrible tragedy . Prayers for strength for the family.
Timmy my friend, you will be missed…… your dry sense of humor, teaching me some Yurok ways, playing baseball with “the white boy”, and of course fishing with you. I know you are with the Great Spirit in the sky……………my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Rest in peace brother…..
This breaks my heart. Rest in Peace.
