Today, about 5:15 a.m., the Eureka Police Department received a report by the owner of a stolen Nissan Altima that he had spotted it in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge Motel on the 1600 block of 4th Street.

According to the scanner, the officer responding located the car with a man and a woman inside. Calling for backup, the officer approached the vehicle and had the two exit it at gunpoint.

Brittany Powell, a spokesperson for the Eureka Police, said that Tyler Gingerich, age 20 of Arcata, was one of the individuals located with the car and he was subsequently arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

This whole area and over to Christies by that end segment of Myrtle is very bad. Homeless and druggies hang out all day and night. They sit in the same place drinking for hours and no police ever show up. No patrols around here. The cops should have spotted this stolen vehicle!

This area needs to be patrolled NOW. EPD – wake up!

I worked at the Econolodg until rerecently. It’s a terribe terrible area, no matter how many times we call the cops on these tweakers they always come back nothing is ever really done. Something needs to change or all these businesses aren’t going be here anymore, it’s sad.
