The problem is the dummies take a cell phone picture of the screen at an angle with light reflection. It really makes me mad that the police don’t make more of an effort to preserve the quality of surveillance footage. I realize this isn’t CSI but it’s not rocket science. Every pixel matters, especially if the footage isn’t the best to begin with. It’s so easy now to put a picture of a suspect in front of of thousands of eyes within hours of a crime and this can be a very effective tool for getting identification but with garbage quality like this there is very little chance of it doing any good. Proper handling at every step in the “chain of custody” is essential. Digital video is saved with lossy compression so some quality is lost immediately. Then we have the incredibly sloppy method for capturing the image from the video. Next we have the image being blurred by the smudged lens on the phone’s camera. Then another round of lossy compression as it is saved as a jpeg, possibly with the phone’s settings not configured for optimum quality. If Kym does any sort of cropping and resizing of the image before posting it goes through another lossy compression. Best practices is to do a direct digital capture of the frame from the video, saved at the original resolution in a lossless image format such as .png, do any necessary post-processing on the image, then if file size is an issue convert to a .jpg with sane quality settings before publishing the image.

Kym, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with you doing editing of the images when necessary and I think it’s reasonable for you to publish the files in a lossy format to keep the file size manageable. Of course it’s best to only do lossy compression once but you have to work with the images as they’re provided to you. Facebook also does a pretty aggressive lossy compression to photos posted there!

Any of the thrift stores recognize the coat? If he was a regular customer they may know him.

Even if he or she wasn’t carrying a gun, they should be charged with armed robbery when caught.
To the victims it was a life threatening situation.

“Running down 9th street”. I would be checking the apartments behind Town School. Some occupants and their friends have been stealing from around that part of town for a while.

Close the dam stores at 7pm and reopen at 7am. Greed has fostered this adaption to robberies in the late or early hours. Yes you can say daytime occurs as well. But-there are more witnesses and customers normally.
This applies to ALL stores in Fortuna

close all the stores in fortuna dont open at all, towns a joke, everything already closes at dark, police arent into solving real crime there more into harrassing the locals and the homeless, and anyone riding a bike, oh shit maby theyll call it a two armed robery sience the blurr had two arms, funny though an armed robbery accures 2 and a half blocks ( within sight of the police station) from the local people who do nothing so they need to hire more people that do nothing ,donut shop. and they still cant catch them ,slow down on them there donuts boys….
