Suspect Allegedly Sprayed Paint Over Security Cameras Before Attempting Burglary, Says EPD

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Ronald OwenOn 03/02/17, at about 11:33 PM, Eureka Police Department officers were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person at a business on the 200 block of ‘J’ Street. The reporting party advised a male subject had blocked his security cameras. Furthermore, the subject appeared to be the same individual observed the previous night committing a burglary while riding a bicycle in the Old Town area.

The first officer arrived in the vicinity a short time later and located the suspect in an alley walking quickly away from the business. The officer detained the suspect, Ronald Anthony Owen, without incident. Owen was found to be in possession of various burglary tools and the same skull mask he was seen wearing the night prior.

During the ensuing investigation, officers discovered Owen used a can of spray paint previously stolen from the same victim to obstruct the business’ surveillance camera. He then cut the lock securing the business’ detached shed, entered the shed and left the stolen spray paint can inside it. It appeared Owen was apprehended before being able to steal any new items.

Owen (age 35 of Eureka) was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County
Correctional Facility on numerous charges including burglary (felony), vandalism, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, prowling/loitering for the purpose of committing a crime, and probation violation.

In addition to numerous other prior local arrests, Owen was arrested by EPD during the early morning hours of 7/27/16 for theft and probation violation. This was after Owen was caught stealing items at a closed business near the West Washington Street city lot where he had been staying at the now defunct temporary overnight homeless sleeping area.

I hope they at least give Ronald Owen a stern talking to before they give him a ticket (which he won’t pay) and release him.

Another repeat, repeat, etc. criminal released time after time by our judges. How long is this going to continue before our court starts caring about the people and communities. When election comes around, remember these judges and DA, and elect officials who want to protect us from these criminals. Unfortunately, it will probably take a victim’s death and the family suing the judge & county before anything changes.

Can’t place all the blame on the judges and DA. The people voted to reduce penalties and refuse to make these criminals responsible for their own actions. We also allowed our governor brown to fill our county jails with people that should be in state prisons so he could pat himself on the back and say he reduced prison population and reduced prison costs (all of which the county and taxpayers are paying for). We need to quit making our prisons comfortable and bring back chain gang type work crews to repair our failing infrastructure.

Agreed 250% a little or even a LOT of community service labor will give them something constructive as opposed to DEstructive, to do with their time!!! As well as (hopefully giving them some much needed experience at a “Real” job!!!!!

He didn’t “run.” He was ordained. Enshrined by folks so disconnected from the political process that they didn’t participate in the election…or even vote. Like Trump.
