All photos by Mark McKenna

A Honda CRV overturned near the intersection of 14th and C Streets in Eureka before 3:45 p.m. According to our reporter Mark McKenna, who is at the scene, there were multiple children in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

UPDATE 4:08 p.m.: McKenna tells us the driver of the SUV hit a parked Ford Mustang on 14th Street, which led to the rollover. The woman who was driving the vehicle was taken to the hospital along with the two children who were in the car with her.

McKenna says, “Traffic is blocked at Williams and 15th while they investigate and clean up.”

I don’t really care how this happened, BUT if those youngsters weren’t securely buckled in, throw the book at the driver!

Hit a parked car. Makes one wonder it there wasn’t some sort of distraction involved, like a cellphone.

I am still trying to figure out how people manage to roll over on Eureka city streets… It’s a special ability I guess.

When you drive a car that’s designed to look like a rolly-polly pillbug; I guess you gotta expect to roll over at a moment’s notice.

The bottom of the car (the four wheels) is no more round and rolly-poley than any other car’s. I imagine excessive speed is the reason for the rollover. Bounced right into the air and landed on its back.

The wages of buying a little or big SUV and driving fast… The upside-down SUV is getting more and more common.

I wouldn’t assume anything but that the car was going too fast, as i posted above. There’s no way you would bounce off and end up on your roof unless you were going pretty darned fast. Maybe i’m wrong… show me a crash test dummy run where 25 or 30 mph lands you that way.

I totally agree. We don’t know that people and we don’t know what happened. We weren’t there. People always want to see the worst in people these days.
