You’re Invited to Celebrate Former Postmaster Harry Pulver

Press release from Rio Dell Scotia Chamber of Commerce:

Harry Pulver The public is invited to celebrate a lifetime of community participation and service with Harry Pulver of Eureka as he prepares to move in March to join other family members in North Carolina.  The event will be held at the Winema Theater in Scotia Saturday, Mar. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Pulver, who has lived in Humboldt County all his life, served as post master in Rio Dell and Scotia from 1964 to 1992.  Before that, he worked at Pacific Lumber, now Humboldt Redwood Company.  He lived in Scotia for many years and joined the Rio Dell Scotia Chamber of Commerce when it formed in the 1960s.   He has been a chamber member continuously, beginning its newsletter, holding several board positions (he is currently a board member and treasurer) and being a major force in many community projects such as one to rehabilitate donated bicycles and provide them to needy children in the community, an effort which ran for 13 years and involved hundreds of bikes.

He later moved to Fortuna where he produced a regular newsletter for residents of a mobile home park, and currently resides in Eureka.

Active for many years in auto racing with his late wife and sons, Pulver is currently a technical inspector at Redwood Acres Raceway where he ensures the cars competing in the Thunder Roadster category meet the required specifications.  In addition, he volunteers his time and skills several days a week at the Tail Waggers Thrift Shop in Eureka, which raises money for the Sequoia Humane Association.  There he inspects and makes repairs to donated items to ensure they are in working condition.

If it weren’t for the inevitable snow or rain or sleet or gloom of night, I’d happily join in celebrating this man for his lifetime of community participation and service. But I think I’ll keep to my warm hovel.
