Window Busting Suspect Likely Only Faced Citation, Says Rio Dell Police Chief

Dave Bourland mugshot

Dave Bourland mugshot from November 2016.

Sometimes a poor decision can twist a small problem into a terrible mess.

On Saturday, a Rio Dell Police Officer was conducting a probation search on the residence of Dave Bourland, a well-known fellow in that town, according to Chief of Police Graham Hill.

The officer detained Bourland in the back of his squad car while searching the residence. The officer discovered only a small amount of drug paraphernalia.

“Likely [Bourland] would have been issued a citation,” Chief Hill explained.

But, Bourland, for whatever reason, while the officer was searching his residence, kicked out the side back window of the squad car and fled….

Now, he’s facing charges of escape and vandalism as well as some other misdemeanors. He’s a wanted man.

Chief Hill doesn’t know what sentence Bourland could face if convicted but he did say, “Hopefully, what happens is he’ll end up with some kind of [drug] treatment program.”

Because holding these folks, or even picking them up, really, really sucks. Particularly on the arrest part. This statement is a bit biased, but if you were a Policeman who would you rather arrest: this moneyless guy, who is willing to punch and kick his way out of your car? Or the easy going pothead who probably has some cash on him, if not a nice car, that you can confiscate?
Hopefully, with the passing of the pot legalisation laws, the money, time, and jail space that was going towards busting pot heads can be used for this fool.

So…….in the same words, he would have been given a citation; but also says he was a wanted man. Either way, being wanted means a parole or probation violation; which means he would have been arrested anyway. But then again, in Humboldt if you are ‘wanted’; it means you will be held and out in a couple hours. This county sucks when it comes to taking criminals off the streets. Need to get some tough judges around here.

Thanks for the clarification. You do a fantastic job, Kym. Still seems like he has been given way too many chances, and the courts have been way too lenient.

If he is a known heroin dealer then why is he allowed to continue?’

Sadly a family I now just lost a member to an o.d. on heroin.

Horrible for her parents, siblings and children.

Sigh….

Its a very sad situation when low life dopers poison our community and nothing gets done about it. The problem starts with dumb asses doing those nasty drugs in the first place. Then, you have predators like this who actually make money off someones addiction. The police need to step up and handle this. He is a known dope dealer.

Paranoid much?he bailed because he was guilty of something. Do we still have drug treatment that works?

An addict has to want to get better, get healed. Otherwise, all the drug treatment in the world won’t help.
