[UPDATE 5:20 p.m.] Sunny Saturday With Rough Roads

A slide near Piercy has closed Hwy 101. A detour is in place. [Photo by Caltrans]

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, “the next two days should have high temperatures peaking in the mid to upper 50s along the coast while inland areas rise to the low to mid 60s.”

While the Eel River at Fernbridge and the Klamath River at Klamath are both still at monitor stage, the water is expected to continue to drop. Check out this interactive map on rivers where you can see predictions and measurements.

Below is what we know about the battered roads in our area at this point. As more information comes in, we’ll update in blue.

You’re doing a fantastic job, Kym. There’s a lot to keep up with and on top of right now regarding road conditions, particularly in addition to all of the other topics you’re finding the time to write about and share with readers. Thank you for all that you do here.

I bet water has been being diverted on the backside or above the slide. Have they talked to the property owner above the Piercy slide? I mean it’s really the only explanation why so much water is constantly running down even after days without rain. People don’t realize how destructive water can be until after the diversion is done.

Where are you living, days without rain??? I drove from redway to eureka yesterday eve and it dumped multiple times.
Theres this thing called saturation that has nothing to do with diverted water, and a substance known as blue goo in our substrate.
Water goes where it can and will carve out old waterways. If anything the lack of full forests with old growth and underbrush to help stabilize slopes is the more likely human disturbance. Focusing on things like that and blaming the wrong issue helps no one and lets the real problem go unchecked. Have you seen the hillsides that maxxam clearcut??? They still dump tons of silt in the river. Hurwitz is sitting on billions laughing at everyone blaming growers for the problems he created and had no accountability for.

You’re kidding, right? All the water is supposed to stop if the rain quits for two or three days? We are way over normal rainfall anyway. Why is there any water anywhere in September if it hasn’t rained all summer? Sure, it’s low, but it’s running. How about your favorite never-fail spring?
