Stormy Taylor, our photographer, sends these photos from the scene.

Wow! About what time was the fire discovered?
Sorry, we haven’t gathered that info yet. My guess, about 5:30.
Thanks! When i first read the story I didn’t know if this was still active, or had occurred around mid-night and was out by now. I assume it is still an active fire as of 7:05am.
Humboldt bay got toned out just after 5 am
Thank you!
My son woke up at 5 a.m and it was already on fire. I live right across the street.
Thank you.
Original time of dispatch was 05:18
That some hot sauce!
Caliente! !! Mucho Caliente !!
Wow was in there a few months ago hot little Latina working the front cash register. Gorgeous! Hope she’s OK
Your name is certainly appropriate.
Second that tim
thats my neighborhood market a block from my house slick fires are not funny
Makes me sad! They do the nice Sunday get together…I am sorry about it for you!
So much action on McCullens lately and none of it good 🙁 Seen a fair amount of talk about the neighborhood wanting to mobilize to combat crime over that way within local Facebook pages… If it isn’t crime related, it’ll be a fluke
ive been trying for a while to get neighborhood watch here suzie owsley is a really nice lady that works with people organizing neighborhood watch for EPD dangit if I hadnt been so sick these past few months or if I had tried harder this could have been avoided…
I came through around 7 and was rerouted through Pine Hill.
At 7 they had northbounders getting off the freeway at the Herrick exit.
I think this fire is an Arson. The past couple mornings I have seen EPD there because of vandalism (broken windows & such). Very sad to see…
D-Trump ! Don’t let the haters win!
Traffic backed up to the King Salmon exit going north a few minutes ago.
This is horrific for a small business. My heart hurts for the owners.
@555am
Bye bye Pete’s cave!! R.i.p.old memories.
Que lastima! Great memories of taking my kids there for pan dulce after Saturday chores were complete. I feel sorry for the owners and employees who worked there. Hope they had insurance and can rebuild.
Huge thanks to Burleyman!
Avoided it!
So sad! I loved that market! Very nice people! I hope they are all okay, and they have insurance!
Pete was my uncle! Lots of great memories there.
My Grandpa took me there as a kid. But the memories.so sorry
At 645am
Heard from a neighbor that there was an explosion.
The video at the top seems to have an explosion on it.
Wow! I used to buy comic books and chewing gum there when I was growing up and we lived across the street. Of course, that was many moons ago and it was known as Pete’s Market back then. Thanks for sending this.
From the scanner recording, the fire was initially reported by a sheriff’s deputy passing by and dispatched at 5:18 a.m. with a full structure response which included automatic aid from Arcata Fire.
Upon arrival and a size-up, the Incident Commander requested a second alarm at about 5:26, which added engines from Samoa Fire and Loleta Fire.
At 5:36 it was again upgraded and Fortuna Fire was added including their ladder truck.
At 5:40 they switched from offensive to “defensive attack” which means all personnel were pulled out of the building and it was fought from the exterior only, from the ground and from aerial ladders.

Thank you. I haven’t had time to do that. I appreciate the help.
What possible motivation could there be for an attack on this innocent example of life north of the wall.
El Pablo?
Maybe they voted for President Trump, that’s all I can think of
The couple who are the owners of the El Pueblo Market are some of the kindest, sweetest and most generous people I have had the pleasure of meeting. I used to pay my telephone bill there every month. My heart aches for them tonight. Rely on your faith…..the Lord is with thee…..
