[UPDATE 10:19 p.m.] Road and Weather Conditions for Monday
After the rain and wind last night, today is predicted to be much calmer. Expect just showers today but by tonight the rain will be back and hanging around through Friday.
If you are coastal areas this morning, high tides are expected to cause some flooding. The National Weather Service reports, “Coastal flood advisory for Humboldt Bay from 5am-9am this morning. Tide levels forecast to reach 8.8-9.0 ft at North Spit.”
The weather still has one major highway closed and multiple rural roads have been impacted. Below is what we know at this point. As more information comes in, we’ll update in blue.
Major Highways:
(Most information below from Caltrans’ Quick Map. If you are heading to Oregon, check their similar site.)- HWY 1: Closed in both direction just west of Leggett. (See here for more info.)
- Hwy 3: Clear
- Hwy 36: Clear
- Hwy 96: According to Caltrans, “SR 96 is reduced to one lane with traffic control at Cade Mountain (Siskiyou CO) due to a slip-out. Motorists should expect delay. Conditions subject to change.”
- Hwy 101: Clear
- Hwy 199: Clear
- Hwy 254 (Avenue of the Giants): Clear
- HWY 299: Mostly clear. However, the large slide at Big French Creek is still blocking east/west travel. (See here for more information.) It was not open to local traffic this morning due to the rains last night. According to Caltrans District 2 Twitter account, “SR 299 in Trinity Co near Big French Creek is CLOSED until further notice due to rain and safety issues.”

Some north Mendo road conditions would be useful.. Is Branscomb Road open to the coast..? Covelo Road..? Bell Springs.?
I wish I had the answers to that but I don’t. If I get the information, I will post it.
This storm must have hit southern Humboldt because there was basically no wind on pine hill last night
Watch for some flooding tonight, snow melting fast combined with the warm rain will make for some fun times for all in these drainage basins.
Thanks. A note for those using Caltrans Quickmap: all hazards, including chains requirements, won’t show up unless you choose them from the drop down ‘options’ menu.
Thanks!
Does anyone know why benbow drive is closed today? All I see on the sites is that it’s closed; they don’t give a reason. Thank you
