Giant Tree Closes Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway

Redwood giant falls across Newton B. Drury Parkway. [Photo from the Redwood National and State Park Service]


The Newton b. Drury Scenic Parkway is closed after a giant redwood crashed across the road. According to the Redwood National and State Park service, there is still “[a]ccess to the visitor center & trails from the south end (exit 753) [M]ore info [at] 707-465-7335.”

Big redwoods are brittle and shatter though. That’s why timber fellers lay out a bed for them when they cut them, to minimize shattering..this one in a park will get cleared out of the roadway and lie there forever..

It would be nice to know where the “Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway” is ????
In almost every news entry on this site ‘someone’ seems to think that every reader knows where these locations are.
It’s meaningless information if you don’t tell the readers where this parkway is …. is it in Northern Humboldt or Southern Humboldt, or maybe near Crescent City… or in Mendo… ????
I think it’s part of Journalism 101 to let your readers know the location of events

Its the main drag through Prarie Creek Redwoods State Park which is north of Orick/south of Klamath.
