[UPDATE 1:43 p.m.] Monday’s Road and Weather

Snow

Expect snow on mountain passes today. [Photo from Caltrans Berry Summit traffic cam]

Thick, fluffy flakes are falling in the Humboldt hills. The National Weather Service predicted, “Wet heavy snow mixed with rain down to 2000 feet will be possible, however little or no accumulation is expected.” However, at 7:45 a.m. there were multiple reports of several inches of snow at elevations as low as 1200 feet above sea level.

We’ll update the roads reports as information comes in throughout the day.

Ya there have been a few “conversion” logging ops as well as green diamond logging that in some spots left single vulnerable trees that had grown up with trees all around it and had not adapted to winds yet.
I wish the THPs would not allow for that practice. Driving by all summer we kept thinking, whelp if theres big storms this winter those are gonna go down. Maybe CDF should come chek the logging ops to make sure they are being conducted properly.
With all the big old growth gone from g.heights and kneeland, there are way more skinny trees and way less buffer from the wind.
Its been super gusty for sure!!

FYI- the Shively Road detour is along a logging road, really is 4×4 only and you should plan on an extra hour if you take it.

Gwyn, thank you for the info. If I take Shively Rd will the detour be well marked and obvious?

Shively rd detour is along Shively ridge road, and then drops you down onto Shively creek road half way to Larabee. The road is marked, its single track, 4×4 recommend. Takes about an hour, road is a PL logging road.

Mendocino Voice is not a good place to get complete road conditions for the county.

Mendocino Sports Plus is another good Mendo source, though as Liz said of Mendocino Voice, they are not complete in their county coverage 🙂
