[UPDATE 2:33 p.m.] Roads: A Wet and Wintry Friday

Weather imagesLast night’s blustery winter weather brought snow down to Berry Summit on Hwy 299. Roadways are flooded and rain continuous to pour down. Please drive carefully.

We will update the list below as information comes in. (New information in blue.)

Major Highways:

(Most information below from Caltrans’ Quick Map. If you are heading to Oregon, check their similar site.)

  • HWY 1: Clear
  • Hwy 3: Chains required. Closed from 20 miles north of Trinity Center to 3 miles south of Callahan at Scott Mtn due to snow
  • Hwy 36:
    • East of Carlotta-flooding 
    • 3 miles west of Mad River (Zenia Road)–Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels.
  • Hwy 96: Clear
  • Hwy 101: Clear
  • Hwy 199: Clear
  • Hwy 254 (Avenue of the Giants):
    • Closed-Holmes Flat Rd to Barkdull Rd
      Due to Emergency Work
      Expected to end at 6:01pm Jan 23, 2017 
    • Slide impacting northbound lane between Cathey Road and Jay Smith Road
  • HWY 299: Snow on Berry Summit. However, the large slide at Big French Creek is still blocking east/west travel.

Humboldt County Roads:

Here’s what we know. As we learn details, we will add the information below.

  • Bair Road- 6 inches snow, chains required
  • Bald Hills- 6 inches snow, chains required
  • Berta Rd-flooded
  • Blue Slide – open
  • Brannon Mountain Road – plowed, open
  • Cannibal Island Road-posted flooded. Closed from Cock Robin to Crab Park.Horse Mt.-carry chains
  • Coffee Creek- closed
  • Crosby Road – slide by bluffs 2.8 miles up
  • Eel River Rd-closed due to flooding
  • Elk River Road – flooded
  • Graham Rd-flooded
  • Hookton Rd-closed due to flooding (Offramps both closed)
  • Howard Heights-flooded
  • Kneeland Road – Slide 1/2 mile up from Freshwater Park
  • Mattole Wildcat section-closed, three miles south of Ferndale
  • McCann Road-closed
  • Meridian – closed between Centerville and Port Kenyon
  • Palmer Blvd. – Slide near Page Way
  • Port Kenyon-closed between California and Market
  • River Road (Ferndale)-flooded at mile marker 3.2
  • Shively Road – one lane controlled traffic
  • Steelhead Road-slide p.m. .4
  • Tompkins Hill-flooded
  • Zanes Road-flooded

Mendocino County Roads:

  • Dos Rios Rd-blocked by a tree

Trinity County Roads:
