When you’ve had a car for 20 years, it’s safe to say that you love it.

Owner Cathy Crandell contacted us to tell us that her green 1996 Honda Civic CX Hatchback that she’d owned since it was new had been stolen on January 17 from Arcata.

“It is my primary form of transportation,” she said. “[I] am very fond of it.”

“The body and paint are in excellent condition,” she said. The license plate number is 3POH102.

If you have any information, please contact the Arcata Police Department at (707) 822-2428.

UPDATE: The vehicle has been located. “I am happy to say the Arcata Police Department found my car last night,” the owner tells us. “…[T]he stereo is gone, but it wasn’t wrecked.”

So unfortunate – I have empathy for the owner (I have been in her shoes) & hope it finds its way home peacefully. What the heck is going on! Smh

Sorry to hear of Cathy’s loss. Thanks for letting us know. We will definitely be on the lookout for her Civic.

In days long past, stealing was not thought of as a crime that would have you booked at 4pm, and eating at a nice restaurant by 6:30. You would be tossed into a cave with bars, and in a day or two, a rep of the court would drop by, and saw off the offending hand.

Not a lot of thieves around back then, and the ones that WERE around were easy to spot!

That’s not how it was anywhere at any time. Thats some strange combination of the practices at different times and locations. There were even more thefts in the past, when more people were starving.

Are there thieves capable of hot wiring? How was this car stolen?

THE ignitions are so worn out that any old Honda key will work. P.s. I’m no thief but I used to own the identical car.

I work at a local auto dealership, and I can’t even begin to count how many people I’ve had come by my lot to look for new rigs due to theirs being stolen in the last few weeks. I don’t know if the leftovers from the season have stuck around and created issues or what, but crime all over humboldt county seems to have been on a steady incline as of late

That’s what I said, there has been a noticeable increase in crime recently leading up to today’s Electoral College protest. Will see if I’m right and crime statistics flatline in the near future.
