John Hannawell: ‘Stayed to raise a family’
This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you.
John Marshall Hannawell passed away unexpectedly on November 29th, 2016 at his home in Fullerton. John moved to Humboldt for college and stayed to raise a family that he chose, eventually leaving to care for his Parents and Aunt. He is preceded in death by his parents Peggy and Richard Hannawell. He is survived by his children Aaron Riley, Jennifer Reeves and husband Andrew as well as grandchildren Richard, Audrey,Leland and Emily.
A father is a person who puts a child first regardless of paternity. Who treats you as theirs even when you’re grown. A person who helps you with homework even when you don’t want it. Who makes you eat your vegetables even if he has to sit at the table for hours and knows all the tricks to watch out for when they try to avoid eating them. Let you have ice cream in your cereal, embarrasses you any chance they get. But most of all leaves the largest hole in your heart when they are gone. I love my DAD and will miss him forever.

I knew John when he was my daughter’s boyfriend at HSU. I loved him too. He was just a lovely person, funny, and hard working.
Somewhere, I have a picture of him in a girls cheerleader costume, down on one knee, in a cheerleader pose! I always think of that photo when I think of John, because it cracks me up.
Wonderful that he has such a caring family.
I am so sorry for the family’s loss. I’m sending love to you.
