Snowflakes are sticking on Hwy 299 at Berry Summit and on Hwy 199 near the Oregon border.

The National Weather Service reminded everyone this morning that a Winter Weather Advisory…

…is in effect through 10:00 PM Monday January 2nd, 2017 as periods of snow showers are forecast for Northwest California. Snow levels will dramatically drop to roughly 1000 feet with 4 to 7 inches of snow forecast from Sunday into Sunday night.

Coastal areas, even as low as sea level, may see a few snow flakes but little to no accumulation is expected in these areas. Highways at pass level are expected to see chain requirements due to dangerous driving conditions from this inclement weather.

Pretty sure it’s Berry… and the second webcam looks like 199, not 299. In eureka area right now, no snow here – and the forecast has gone from 20F to 42F.

“Berry” Summit is actually Barry Summit. I believe that when Highway 299 was a series of toll roads in the 19 Century, that section of road was owned and maintained by (William?) BARRY. Cal Trans has the name of the summit wrong.

No snow in my part of Bridgeville, YET!!! Tonight when the temperature drops with the sun, if the Snow Level comes down to 1,000 feet, as predicted, I’m sure we will then, if not before!!!!

Negative Paul Jensen. Buckhorn is not between Berry and Oregon.

Started to lightly snow around 1:30 in Big Bar, elevation approximately 1600 ft. No snow at all at 3:20; 40 degrees now. Right now I am seeing blue sky; Oregon mountain is clear and Buckhorn looks wet, no snow.

Couple years ago in Rio Dell we got snow on the ground maybe half an inch accumulation. The ground temperature was like 38 .

I remember in I think 1972, about six inches of snow on Harrison Ave, in Eureka.

At my elevation in willow creek (2400)it’s only a wet snow, and the cold temperatures forecast for later this week (which had me checking for antifreeze in my truck) have been dialed back. I was hoping for some real winter :/
