Seven Earthquakes Centered Near Laytonville in the Last Day
A small earthquake centered near Laytonville tapped the area at 5:48 a.m. today. There have been a number of shakes this last week. A 4.1 rolled through yesterday morning at 5 a.m. and on November 3 there was a 3.8 that hit at 5:57 a.m.
If you felt this 2.8 quake, scientists would like you to fill out this small report. And we’d like to hear where you were and what happened in the comment section.
UPDATE 6:27 a.m.: Annnnd, another one. At 6.22 a.m. a fourth quake hit near Laytonville. This one, the smallest yet is 2.3. Did you feel that one, too?
UPDATE 7:50 a.m.: Two more quakes hit Laytonville earlier than the one we caught. We missed the first one today–a 2.8 at 5:19 a.m. AND, there was a 2.5 at 10.31 p.m. last night. AND one at 10:02 that was 2.9.
The area still hasn’t stopped shaking. There was a 2.4 quake at 7:39 a.m.

Are there any faults in this area? Any history of large quakes? Just curious.
Yes, the yellow line down the center of Willitts is a fault line.
Yes there is a fault bit no not usually any quakes
Branscomb, Ca. where the epicenter for the quakes and home to a carbonated spring, is closest to the Brush Mountain Shear Zone on the back side of Cahto Mountain, an inferred extension to the Maacama Fault Zone. Just west off the coast in the Pacific lies the mighty San Andreas Fault. There’s a GPS station there that’s part of a system that monitors transform plate movement in that part of California. When the Cascadia Megathrust goes off, I can just imagine what kind of movement will happen.
6 quakes here in Branscomb in the last 12 hours! The fault map at the USGS does not even show a fault line in this area. Maybe Cahto Mountain is becoming a Volcano? Crazy Man!
here is my attempt to show my usgs quake page of US coasters. you have the option to show the fault lines or no. lots of interesting options on this site.

when i point to the fault lines it will pop their names up. i’m on top of the table bluff fault
The big one is coming !!!!,all these little quake is a prelude to what’s coming .
Was that really the last day? OMG!!!
So many in one area. Instinct leads me to wonder if may be related to chemical extraction operations? Tis the season, and also voting season. Don’t forget to Vote.
2s and 3s? Those might technically be considered “earthquakes” but c’mon really quit being so dramatic. Those ain’t nothing! Long Valley has a fault running right beneath it so yeah maybe some day we’ll get a real deal. Those 5s were fun and worthy of note but 2s and 3s? Just little farts.
2’s and 3’s may be small ones, but you can’t ignore the major earthquakes that have been happening in California and are documented all the way back to the mid 1800’s.
Maybe the rain has something to do with the quakes?
All of these mountains that we live in lifted from out of the sea bottom. They didn’t do it quietly. We are certainly in for more.
turtle mother is just flexin’. relievin’ a little stress.
she has collective us, we pesky interlopers/parasites – she enjoys shakin’ us off our perches once in a while.
go maama go.
my dogs are acting weirder the last 48 hrs. old joe is glued to me and poppy is hyper and going on point with deep growl barks. i don’t see any bad ppl.
nap time…i wonder what mother has in store for weather. maybe the barometer is dropping. i feel like hell. critters feel crappy during low barametric pressure times. lots of baby’s decide to be born when it gets really low.
tis nap time… in our little home.
good fortune all!

What is weird is that according to USGS the depth of these quakes was -0.3 km give or take a few for all of them. All of the depths are minuscule. Unless I don’t know what I’m talking about. Aren’t these almost surface quakes? Is there such a thing?
Out of nowhere we have a rash of seven quakes makes me wonder what is growing underneath. Quakes in that area have never been reported on http://www.earthquakes.com so there’s weird happening. Maybe Laytonville will be Mt. Laytonville and new land uprising is coming. Happened in Mexico and a new volcano grew out of a flat field. Wow!!!
Won’t make Caltrans happy when the road cracks and slips sideways 10′. So enjoy the local entertainment-was 4 quakes 2 days ago and now 7 quakes today. More coming??? Sure!
