Two Armed Robberies…Same Guy?

Bank Robbery FeaturePress release from Eureka Police:

On November 3, 2016, at about 11:39 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to a gas station on the 2100 block of 4th Street for the report of an attempted armed robbery. The suspect had entered the store with a shotgun and demanded money from the register. The clerk noticed the shotgun appeared to be unloaded and told the suspect to leave. The suspect left on foot without further incident.

The suspect was described as a white male, 20-30 years old, 6’5”, thin build, wearing a dark knit cap, dark blue hooded sweatshirt, jeans, black and white shoes, and was wearing a fake beard and mustache. The shotgun was described as having a single barrel. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

At about 11:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to a hotel on the 800 block of W. Wabash Ave. for the report of an armed robbery. The suspect had entered the hotel with a shotgun and demanded money from the lobby register. The clerk complied and the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was described as a white male, 24-25 years old, 6’2”, medium build, blonde hair, blue eyes, wearing a black Carhartt jacket, blue and white shoes, and a black ski mask. The employee described the suspect’s voice as having a “country” accent. The shotgun was described as a sawed off shotgun. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Open businesses in the vicinity were notified of the robberies by EPD dispatch and officers. Based on the similarities and time frame, it appears the two incidents are possibly related. This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4044.

A person standing to the side enough to see the open chamber on a pump style gun MIGHT see a shell (usually brightly colored) as it is picked up and moved to the firing chamber as the gun is racked/loaded and cocked… but who runs into a dangerous situation with a previously unloaded shotgun except an idiot.
The loading/ cocking/ racking sound (Hollywood style..the ‘scary noise’ ) should produce the previously loaded shell..if it didn’t it is at least a good guess the operator is an idiot (now an even more dangerous idiot)(pretty much already established as he is trying to rob people) and that the gun might be unloaded..which would be a stupid assumption really anyway.

The attendant who said it was unloaded isn’t quoted as to his expertise on the subject, but there is a very small chance he actually knew anything about the state of the gun…a very dangerous assumption with a shotgun and with any gun.

Only with a revolver pistol can the bullets be seen in good light. There are pistols that shoot shotgun cartridges, on those pistols one could see the shells in the magazine.

It sounds like possibly two different robbers to me too, the timing suggests otherwise.

I think the cops should put stickers on all businesses as to there armed robbery worthiness like they are doing for cars. Kinda of like the rating of restaurants. Make it easier for the scumbags.

If it’s a “pistol”, it cannot be a revolver. Same in the opposite direction. Brilliant…
