Bummer hope the victim recovers well.
What’s happening here? Pedestrians need to pay attention to their surroundings. Last night, crossing the street in dark clothes and now this. All these pedestrians being hit by cars in Humboldt County is unbelievable. Not saying it can’t happen, but come on.
Slow moving vehicles also need to pay attention to their surroundings. It could happen to anybody and it may not have been the pedestrian’s fault. Just saying
It wasn’t the pedestrians fault. It’s 100% the fault of the driver backing up.
It’s not right or wrong its life or death. Walkers and bikers need to be alert and protective the car usually wins in these situations.
People need to watch to this person walks every morning this was close to his own home
yes people when you see a car turning and your crossing always make eye contact with the driver or your going to get ran over, never just assume you have the right away or your going to run or get ran over…
I am sorry, but to blame the pedestrian in this case is ridiculous. The article clearly says he was run over by a vehicle backing out of a driveway. This is absolutely the fault of the driver not looking over their shoulder/behind them before backing up. Perhaps people should be better drivers!
What’s happening here? Drivers need to pay attention to their surroundings. Last night, a driver in a dark colored car, cut a left turn, driving left of a double yellow and hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and now this. All these pedestrians being hit by vehicles in Humboldt County is unacceptable. It’s time for drivers to start watching out for pedestrians.
I was hit by a man in broad.daylight in the parking lot between fin and feather and toy box,he was backing out,as I was walking by and BAM,he keep going I didnt.thats why they have mirrors on vehicles,so you can check behind you,so I thought.i hope this man will be.fine.god bless
As a pedestrian, motorcycle rider, and bicycle rider, or a truck driver I don’t trust that drivers see me any , that are awake, not incapacitated by stupidity, drink, drugs, age or whatever.
People pop out in front of me without even looking, it is amazing the lack of awareness of both vehicle operators and pedestrians alike, it’s amazing we all get home safely at all.
My hypervigilance is well earned and active even before I was torpedoed by a blacked out drunk driver.
As a pedestrian, I usually try to catch the driver’s eye–can’t do that with tinted windows. It’s dangerous and annoying.
Both the driver and the man walking are equally at fault. Quit trying to take sides when we’ll never know all of the facts. If the man lived a few houses down (as stated), then he’s fully aware of his surroundings. The driver as well knows that Rohnerville road is a nightmare to enter so he was going slow outward. How lame to blame him for not “looking”. He was “going slowwwwww”. Both parties assume equal responsibility. Stop the bickering!
There has got to be a record for how many pedestrians hit by vehicles in Humboldt this year !
When backing up always check your surroundings then floor it
