home invasion featurePress release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday, October 20, 2016 at about 1:27 p.m. Humboldt County Deputies responded to a residence on Hwy 101 in Orick for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. When Deputies arrived on scene they spoke with a female victim. The female victim told Deputies she was asleep in her bedroom when she was awoken by her dog barking. The victim exited her bedroom and noticed two adult males ransacking her home. The male suspects fled upon seeing the victim. As one of the suspects fled, he hit the victim with a blue duffle bag, causing minor injuries.

The suspects stole a laptop in a red laptop case, and tattoo equipment.

Suspect #2 is described as a white male adult, between 20-29 years old, thin build and wearing a brown hat.

I don’t think it’s helpful to conflate burglary with a home invasion.

Home invasion is when the vic is at home when the offense occurs.

Maybe the suspects should have locked up the house before the victim was going to bed to make for an exciting set of charges – notice no information about a breaking and entering………..

Breaking and entering is a metaphor. Just entering is the crime.

My point is, do you really think they set out with a laptop and tattoo equipment as the payoff for breaking and entering? My instincts and judgment are tugging at my leg on this one.

You’ve never been to Orick, have you? Wouldn’t be surprised if home invasion happened for a roll of quarters!

I wasn’t trying to discredit the victim. It was more of a play on the intent of the home invaders and what they are usually after especially this time of year. After all, how many home invasions are reported in the news that do not involve marijuana? Statistically very few I bet.
