Prescribed Burning Planned for Areas of Humboldt

Prescribed Burning Planned Within Redwood State Parks as well as the Bridgeville and Orick Areas of Humboldt County
What: Grassland Prescribed Burning

When: When conditions permit, between Sunday October 9, 2016 and the end of the of October 2016.

Where: Up to 123 acres in the Boyes Prairie area of Prairie Creek State Park and 100 acres in the Luke Look Prairie Area of the Redwood State Park in the Eel River Drainage. Other Prescribed Fire will be conducted in the Bridgeville area just north of Bridgeville

Why: These burns are part of the prescribed fire program for vegetative management and hazardous fuels reduction. This treatment will enhance the health of the native plant communities, encourage increased species composition, and aid in the control of non-native, weedy species and protect and enhance prairie habit for Roosevelt Elk and other important species and habitats.
Who: In cooperation with CAL FIRE, Private stake holders and the California Redwood State Parks.
