Block Party!

Eureka Police EPD Block partyPress release from the Eureka Police Department:

The Eureka Police Department, the City of Eureka, and the I Like Eureka Campaign are sponsoring a community wide Block Party on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sequoia Park.

This is a great opportunity for citizens to spend time amongst the Redwoods learning more about crime prevention, child ID fingerprinting and the Neighborhood Watch program, while at the same time enjoying fun filled activities for the whole family.

“Come out and join us at the 2nd annual Block Party,” states Captain Brian Stephens. “This is a great opportunity to network with neighbors, receive new crime prevention tips and most importantly, have fun. The Community is a vital part of policing and policing is a vital part of the community. By working together we can improve the quality of life and opportunities for all those that live, work, shop and recreate in Eureka.”

Stephens also added, “Proceeds from this year’s event are going to help with several projects, including EPD’s Shop with a Cop Holiday Program.  Not only can you have fun, become more informed and involved, you will be brightening the life of a child this holiday season. I hope to see you there!”

Come out and meet your community safety partners and visit with representatives from Humboldt Bay Fire, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and the County Office of Emergency Management.

There will be a Bounce House, a pie eating contest thanks to Slice of Humboldt Pie, birds from the Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, balloon art, and our own Cinderella from Humboldt Princess parties will be face painting.

The City of Eureka Parks and Recreation will be providing interactive kids’ games and the Redwood Community Action Agency’s (RCAA) TOOTH program will be promoting good oral health habits with some fun activities. Learn more about guided kayak and surfing tours and the popular PacOut Green Team from the Pacific Outfitters booth.

No chance of going hungry at the Block Party. Block Party supporters Rita’s Mexican Grill will roll up their popular food truck parked at the event and local favorite Sammy’s BBQ will be firing up the barbeque. We will also have a S’more Booth provided courtesy of the ladies from the Eureka Emblem Club. Rex Bohn and friends will be grilling Humboldt Bay Oyster Company’s bivalves and hotdogs from Eureka Natural Foods.

McDonalds of Humboldt County will be highlighting their healthy menu that includes salads, juices, ice tea, parfaits, and fresh fruit cups. The Humboldt Creamery cream truck will be making an appearance with ice cream samples.

We will be featuring the local sounds of bands LaPatinas and the Honky Tonk Detours.
There will be a raffle with lots of great local prizes, the Forget Me Not Photo Booth, exercise led by our city’s own dynamo Michaele Whiteley and her Zumba Friends. There will be a live remote with our partners at KHUM Radio/Lost Coast Communications. Be sure and catch the Spirit of the North Coast PSA from our KIEM sponsor.

The event is a fundraiser for EPD’s Shop with A Cop holiday program and I Like Eureka/Eureka Neighborhood Watch. For more information contact Suzie Owsley at the Eureka Police Department at 441-4371 or [email protected] or via Facebook at

More feelgoodism that does NOTHING to stop crime. And they want our money. We pay enough tax dollars! Cops should be ENFORCING THE LAW not waiting tables at Rita’s Vomitorium.
