Press release from the Department of Fish and Wildlife:

In the early morning hours of Aug. 21, 2016, at 12:40 a.m., a California Department of Fish and Wildlife warden was shot at as he attempted to stop a vehicle containing multiple persons suspected of spotlighting. The wildlife officer was not hit. Spotlighting is an act of poaching when a person shines a bright light into an animal’s eyes at night, freezing them in place, then shooting it.

As the wildlife officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on the suspect vehicle near Redwood House Road near Highway 36, at least one of the occupants opened fire on him and they fled the scene in the vehicle. The wildlife officer pursued the vehicle and called for backup while relaying vehicle and suspect information. The suspects continued firing at him as he pursued. The suspects ultimately crashed their vehicle into a tree and fled into the night. Due to the presence of multiple suspects, their intent on shooting him, and lack of immediate assistance, the warden waited for help before continuing the search. Multiple agencies responded to the call for assistance from the Wildlife Officer. The suspects were not located as of today.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is the lead on the investigation.  Anyone with information about the case or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

That’s what we thought in the now-cold case of the two dead, hit-and-run teen-age girls in Fortuna a month ago. Maybe the HCSO can get help on investigative police procedures from the CHP.

These are the kind of vermin that need to be jailed or run out of the area if we are going to establish safe neighborhoods and a sound economic base.

They’ll work on this one faster as the non-victim was a LEO. Two little girls dead don’t matter as much as a live LEO “in fear of his life”, etc. yadda yadda.

If YOU are going to rank lives’ values, YES, the LEO puts his life on the line very day for YOU and the Animals in your World.

I don’t buy it for one second that the local Leo’s put anything on the line for us. In fact most if not all the encounters that we have theses days with law enforcement are bad. The days of law enforcement working for the people are over and never coming back. I used to be in law enforcement locally and the do as I say not as I do motto is the way Leo’s roll around here. Sad but true

“Putting their life on the line” is complete BS promulgated by those too stupid, lazy and often cowardly to do anything useful. Policeman is not a dangerous job — it`s about equal in danger to a telephone lineman and slightly safer than truck driver. Not in the top ten of dangerous jobs and not even close to jobs that require a real man — logger, high steel worker, etc.

You are very wrong. This isn’t CSI. Without an admission, LEO have zero choice but to wait for lab results (which can take months to get completed by state labs.).

An immediate arrest is meaningless, since said evidence isn’t yet in hand ( i.e. Forensics reports). You only have a few days to present evidence to hold over for trial, once an arrest has been made.

In the meantime, they are collecting additional evidence to make sure charges not only stick, but cement her fate. The girls will get justice!
