Cal Fire Stomps McCann Fire

McCann Fire

Smoke rises in a wooded area above the Eel River in McCann. [Photo from Cal Fire]

As of 2:57 p.m., the 1/4 acre McCann Fire was contained. The smoke was first called in at approximately noon today but crews got it out fast. With major fires burning across the state, Cal Fire sent a number of resources at it to make sure it didn’t get big.

PG&E was notified as a power line was down when crews got on the scene.

Did a bomber come from the north to put it out? I saw one fly that way at that time.

That’s because all the growers are sucking her dry.

Was this started by growers that pumped the river dry?

Or a tweeker burning ants with a magnifying glass?

Too far from the road to be dragging chains, so it must be one of the above, or AOTA.

Just to let you folks out there that may or may not remember Beth from Grasshopper Lookout. She was staffing the tower today and because of all her great training (that she never forgot) she spotted this fire and turned it in which kept it small. The Fire lookouts were an integral part of keeping the fires from becoming a firestorm. Good job Beth aka Mama Quail

Don’t know if it’s the same gal, but back in the 80’s “Miss Grasshopper” had a very sexy voice. Like Maralyn Monroe. We liked to listen to her do the Fire Weather on the CDF radio.
