Michael Allen Kowtko, Sr.: ‘Quality of Existence’

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you.

Michael Allen Kowtko Sr. went to rest in paradise on July 30th 2016. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life.

Mike’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Mike battled non small cell carcinoma.

He will be missed by so many for his compassion and love that poured out anywhere he went. He spent a large portion of his life as a commercial fisherman and truck driver. He took up many hobbies but his favorite was making knives. He had a strong passion about fishing and would sit out at the bay, lake, or river all day doing so.

Mike is survived by his wife Robin, children Rosann and Brett, Jennifer and Jason, Michael and Giovanna, Jessica and Ben, Tara and many more who called him Dad including his god children. Also Mike is survived by his sisters Sandy, Tina and brother Steve; grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his best friend “Groucho”.

The family would like to thank Holly Vitgenos for her undivided attention and compassionate care all the way to him taking his last breath.

We will be having a Celebration on Life on Sunday August 21st, 2016 @ the Fortuna River Lodge 1PM.

In the year 2016 month of July we are mourning our brother who has yet to die. The cancer got him and he is at the end of his life, and his nurse happens to be his ex wife. The days are long but go by so quick, when you care for a loved one who is sick. My heart is heavy and tears fall every day how much longer can I go on this way? Its still July now the 30th day, Jesus came and took my brother away I find peace in knowing he suffers no pain but life without him will never be the same I love you brother, goodbye…I still have tears left to cry.

My sincerest sympathies to you all. Our mothers (Louise and Rosie)were fast friends back in the day. We recently lost our sister Denyse to the same horrible disease. Memories are what we cling too, both the happy and the sad. There are no words to take away sadness when you lose someone you love. Wishing you many wonderful moments.
