DUI Believed Factor in 19-Year-Old’s Major Injury Crash

This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 7, the driver of a Toyota 4Runner rolled his vehicle and sustained major injuries.

At approximately 2:13 p.m., 19 year old Brandon Phillip Spalino of McKinleyville was driving a 1992 Toyota 4Runner northbound on Central Avenue south of Picket road.  For reasons still under investigation Spalino failed to stop at a red light.  Spalino’s vehicle veered off the roadway where it collided into a wooden sign post and a large pine tree causing the 4Runner to roll onto its side.  Spalino suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Mad River Community Hospital by Mad River Ambulance.  DUI is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.

The California Highway Patrol would like to take this unfortunate opportunity to remind motorist that distracted driving ends lives. Do not risk your life or the lives of others just to read a text message or answer a call.  Pull over when safe to use your phone.

The truth includes fact.

Fact: The county of Humboldt fucked up.

1) County seal coats all of central avenue.

2) Now, no lines exist and vehicles are driving all over the road.

3) What appears to be a lane marked by improperly placed temporary flex reflectors is often a pinch point because another motorist is threatening a head on collission.

4) The county slid in very quietly a commercial development on Central Avenue for which caused the county to cease lining the streets in order to push some of those costs onto the new development.

5) In the meantime, the county is complicit in negligence by forcing the community to drive on an unsafe, unmarked by lines main thoroughfare of Central Avenue.

6) There is drunk , with street lines existing.

7) There is drunk with no street lines existing.

8) Everyone wonders in McKinleyville why the county forces the community to drive on an unsafe Central Avenue.

Maybe, maybe not,

But,

The fact there are no lines lining 5 lanes all along Central Avenue causes accidents, near head on collisions, etc…

The County fucks up yet another road improvement project process.

Unless I am missing something, no white lane markers, would not cause running a red light.
