Pole and Sign Damaged by Drunk Driver Last Night, Says EPD

Did you hear a lot of fuss last night on Myrtle Avenue? We first heard a report of shots fired over the scanner but then someone ended up being arrested for a DUI. We asked Brittany Powell spokesperson for the Eureka Police Department what happened. She explained:

Holt, Travis On August 8, 2016, at about 9:48 p.m., officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Myrtle and 7th Streets.  The original caller reported screeching and a possible shot heard.  Additional callers reported a red truck collided with a power pole and sign then fled east on Myrtle.

Officers located the damaged pole and sign on Myrtle near 8th Street.  Officers then located the vehicle and driver near 15th and T Streets.

The driver, Travis Holt, 32 of McKinleyville, was arrested for DUI, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license.  Holt’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

We were playing a softball game at Coopers Gulch last night when the field lights went out, followed by a large boom. Game over. When we left the Gulch, we saw an EPD cruiser protecting the scene out on Myrtle, but it was one of our players who followed the wet spot to the damaged truck, blocks away, and called it in. Then the driver drove away again and the citizen followed and informed EPD again. When popo got there, they had to chase the driver down on foot. EPD should have given props to the anonymous citizen caller.

Because they usually throw you in the slammer and wait to take your mugshot the next morning after you’ve spent the night with nothing to clean up with. That’s why most folks look worse than they normally would in their booking photo.
