[UPDATE Wednesday 9:27 a.m.] Gunshot Victim in the Petrolia Area
At approximately 5:30 p.m. today, emergency dispatch received word that a person had been shot in the leg in the Petrolia area near “Lighthouse Beach.” Presumably this is out Lighthouse Road. Law enforcement and an ambulance are responding with lights and sirens. An air ambulance has been requested.
A BOLO (Be on the Lookout) is being broadcast for someone headed from the Petrolia area.
UPDATE 5:58 p.m.: The sheriff’s Department is actively looking for “the shooter.”
UPDATE 5:59: REACH 18 (medical aircraft) has a ETA of 45 minutes.
UPDATE 6:02 p.m.: One of the Sheriff’s Officers responding just reported a traffic collision in the Wilder Ridge just before Ettersburg. The victim was in a solo motorcycle accident.
UPDATE 6:10 p.m.: The Reach aircraft has been cancelled but Fortuna ambulance is still responding.
UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: According to the officer at the scene, the gunshot victim is also suspected of assaulting women with rebar.
UPDATE 7:11 p.m.:The gunshot victim became combative and then dispatch lost contact with the deputies who were on scene with the combative individual.
UPDATE 7:25 p.m.: The person who was initially called the suspect is now being called a Good Samaritan by officer on scene.
UPDATE Wednesday 7:27 a.m.: According to Petrolia Fire Chief Travis Howe, The gunshot “victim” “attacked a lady in the camp ground with a piece of re-bar and then another that came to her aid before more campers stepped in. After further advances by him, he was eventually shot in the lower leg and tied up.”
