[UPDATE] Shots Fired as Burglary Suspects Flee; Law Enforcement Detains Two

scanner iconOne suspect is in custody and another being sought following a burglary attempt that resulted in gunfire.

According to scanner traffic about 7:45 p.m., a citizen reported to law enforcement tonight that shots had been fired after a burglary was interrupted. Apparently a chase had ensued with the suspects firing a handgun at the reporting party. The suspects fled in a pickup onto the river bar near Fernbridge.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies began searching for the suspects. They eventually captured one suspect about 8:45 p.m. and made brief voice contact with the other. The second suspect did not obey commands to come in so Fortuna’s K-9  was called for at approximately 8:51 p.m.

We’re following the ongoing situation and will update as soon as possible.

UPDATE 9:13 p.m.: The second suspect has been captured and the call for the K-9 has been cancelled.

End of the month. Crime and thefts always increases.
I for one am so weary of the criminal activity, taking from those of us that work to earn our property.

if we give in so easy they will continue to take from us—–Garberville is no longer a place to take your children—-the open sales going on at the two gas stations is shameful—this continues because we do not deal with it—-when they run out of money for meth/heroin they head for our homes—-the men sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the bank—the tweaker truck parked for weeks gathering garbage on main street sends a message about our town to newcomers that we do not care—

We? Did we not just vote a tax on ourselves to fund LAW ENFORCEMENT?. If you & I can plainly see the sale of drugs in broad daylight on our streets, why is the Sheriff sitting on his hands and doing nothing. We need a beat cop in Garberville, walking the streets and chasing these miscreants out of town by making their activities impossible

You’re worried about the message we are sending to “newcomers” to G-Town? That’s so cute! The only newcomers to the area are dope entrepreneurs.

The second biggest money generating business here is tourism. People come here from all over the world for the beauty we take for granted here. You, Miss “Gromore”, are a bit of an ass

So sounds like this guy had his son with him while trying to burglarize a vehicle?? So dang sad, now this is how this young man is being raised up and he will most likely carry on the family tradition 🙁 I would hope a judge would really put it to this guy for involving his kid in this kind of crap!!!!!!!!!!! SET AN EXAMPLE, that is what this county needs more of.

Maybe it was “bring your child to work day.” Father-son male bonding. Double “Y” day at the Fernbridge Proving Grounds and Firing Range.

Where did you read it was a father and son? I reread article and it didn’t say that.
