Missing Woman/Stolen Car Recovered
This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On July 14, 2016 at approximately 12:45 PM, CHP Dispatch received a 911 cal of a blue Honda compact car driving recklessly westbound on SR-299. CHP Dispatch received the license plate number and was able to determine it was a current stolen vehicle out of Palm Springs. Trinity River CHP Officer’s received the broadcast from CHP Dispatch and began looking for the vehicle. CHP Dispatch notified Trinity County Sheriff Dispatch also. A Trinity County Sheriff Deputy located the vehicle traveling eastbound on SR-299 passing by Trinity River Lumber Mill, but lost sight of the vehicle once it passed through the Lance Gulch Intersection. CHP Officer E. Nelson, #13699, located the vehicle still traveling eastbound on SR-299 at Little Browns Creek Road and confirmed the license plate of the vehicle was a reported stolen vehicle out of Palm Springs. Once it was confirmed and other units arrived, CHP Officer E. Nelson conducted an enforcement stop at Union Hill Road. The solo female driver, Wendy Ruiz Lopez, was then taken into custody and refused to answer any questions. It was also determined Lopez was a reported missing adult out of Riverside County. Lopez was transported to Trinity County Jail without any further incident. The vehicle owner in Palm Springs was notified their vehicle had been recovered with no damages.

Thankful no one was hurt. Those chases can get pretty nasty.
