A young girl was struck by a vehicle in the 3400 block of Glen Street in Eureka about 9:45 last night. According to Brittany Powell of the Eureka Police Department, officers arrived on scene and learned that the female juvenile had “ran into the road” before she was struck.

“The pedestrian, a female juvenile, sustained head injuries and was transported to the hospital,” wrote Powell in an email response to us.

A local resident believed that the injured child was about eight years old. She stated, ” “[The impact] knocked her little shoes onto opposite sides of the street….The windshield was cracked…The mom was screaming that she saw [the car] hit her daughter!!”

According to Powell, the EPD representative, “The pedestrian, a female juvenile, sustained head injuries and was transported to the hospital.  The juvenile was later airlifted to an out of the area hospital for treatment.”

The local resident wrote that the experience was terrifying for everyone involved. “The driver who hit her was MAYBE 17 or 18 years old!!!!! She looked so freaking young and was so upset, I just wanted to hug her.”

“Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision,” said Powell, the police spokesperson.

Driver would of only gotten 180 days if they did leave the scene. At least that seems to be the normal these days

Kids are so impulsive. But at 9:45 PM, who would expect a child to dart into the street with her mother right there? Poor child, and poor driver who has to live with this nightmare.

May the mom of the little girl be able to go and be with her as she recovers. And may the driver be given abundant support as well.

This is so sad, having two little girl, I can only imagine. But seriously WTF is an 8 year old doing outside at this time of night, running away from its “mother”….. There has got to be a lot more to this story from within the family. Hopefully the child has a speeding recovery, and has no set backs. Absolutely sad…..
