On 06-12-2016 at approximately 12:20 AM Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office completed a traffic stop, due to a vehicle traveling at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, in a 65 mile per hour zone. The vehicle was stopped at Highway 101 and Lake Mendocino Drive Ukiah, California.

When Deputies contacted the driver (Carlos Larios) and front passenger (David Monroy) of the vehicle they could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Jerry, maybe you can go to the police department and demand to know where the rest of the money is! Let them know how you know so much about this bust. Set them straight Jer!

Always a great idea to speed when carrying tens of thousands in cash. Also smart thinking to smoke in the car and speed. These guys are geniuses.

Yeah, right!

It says clearly “a small amount of marijuana” was found. That is a misdemeanor that gets you a small fine. Now it will cost thousands for an attorney to get any of their money back. Is it ILLEGAL to carry U.S.currency? Why?
This happened to me & I am not a drug dealer. It cost me $5000 to get back $10,000 of the $15,000 I was carrying to Santa Rosa to purchase a car. And I wasn’t even speeding. I would add that it took TWO YEARS to get my money back. The law does not pay interest on this “loan”

As much as I hate linking to huffpost, what the story does not touch on is the fact that they can also access debit cards tied to your bank account. It won’t be long in tell they start issueing these in Cali. They all ready have no refusal check swab check points down south, in fact I’m kinda serprized they don’t do more of this kinda stuff around here, with all the cash driving around.

Sorry boys. You minds were not on the “logical” mode. To purposefully speed when carrying a lot of extra cash means, yep, you got it, bingo bango bongo, confiscation. Now we don’t want to assume that they are runners. If you carry proof of your funds and are not speeding, then you are most likely not going to get into a hassle with the LEO’s. Sadly, many legitimate folks don’t have bank accounts or receipts to prove the money is not somehow tainted. Hard to see good hard working folks like the poster above get ripped off.

I will tell u from first hand experience, 1) doubt that they were speeding, it’s a common tactic to stop the car 2) no way in hell they smelled the weed. They stoped the car just to see who and what was going on. They said the same thing to me and there was absolutely zero weed. That’s “probable cause” to search car, he asked to search I said no and he did anyway and found a rather decent amount of money. But no weed. When I went to court they mysteriously lost the dash cam footage. So let’s Pat them on their back for Finding one car, think about the fifty they harass and find nothing…..i went back threw Willits a month later different cop same story but found nothing and when I asked for his badge number he handcuffed me and kept me in car for fourtyfive minutes while he searched anyway. That’s all I’m saying

David: I was “abused,” by members of the Willits PD a few years back when I lived outside of town. The contempt by the law in that town for the law is appalling, in my experience.
