[UPDATE 1:42 a.m.] Residential Structure Fire; ‘I’ Street Closed

image A multi-story residential structure is burning as of 12:15 a.m. in the 1800 block of “I” Street in Eureka. The intersection of “I” and Del Norte Street is closed.

All the occupants and animals are out of the structure, according to our reporter at the scene, Oliver Cory.image

UPDATE 12:41 a.m.: The firefighters are pulling crews out of the building now. The scanner sounds as if they are fighting only a defensive fire.

UPDATE 12:58 a.m.: As water pours from the front door and the flames have been quenched, PG&E arrives on scene. The Incident Commander is requesting assistance for the family (one adult and one child, according to the scanner) and their pet.

UPDATE 1:06 a.m.: “The back of the building looks pretty bad,” reports Cory from the scene.

UPDATE 1:21 a.m.: Cory tells us that he heard one of the firefighters report that the dog did not survive the fire.

UPDATE 1:30 a.m.: The road is still blocked from H Street to J Street on Del Norte Street. Then blocked from 17th to Sonoma Street.

UPDATE 1:40 a.m.: Red Cross is responding to the scene of the incident.

UPDATE 1:42 a.m.: According to Battalion Chief Kent Hulbert of Humboldt Bay Fire, the daughter awoke and saw flames from a shed in the rear. She ran back to get her mom. The mom tried to go back to grab her cell phone, but the flames chased her from the home.

Dam not looking good. So sorry for the family or familys involved in this. And may God protect our firefighters.
