[[UPDATe 11:55 a.m.] ‘Beehive’ of Mendo Sheriff Vehicles Gather Near the Foot of Bell Springs Road

“I counted eight; I’ll bet there’s more,” reported an anonymous source today about a “beehive” of Mendocino Sheriff vehicles swarming in a pullout 500 yards north of the Bell Springs Road turnoff on Hwy 101 about 9:15 a.m.

One of the mostly SUV type vehicles was marked Search and Rescue. None of the others were. There was at least one of “those small, closed two door trailers,” reported the witness, that he said was being pulled behind another vehicle.

In what may be a coincidence, there was an electronic sign near the foot of Bell Springs that read, according the witness, something like “Be aware of working law enforcement.”

We will attempt to gather information about the incident and update here. If anyone sees the sign or the vehicles please photograph them and send them to [email protected]

UPDATE 9:50 a.m.: One local reports that this is a search party for the missing elderly man we posted about here.

UPDATE 10:03 a.m.: Another reader reports, “There must be 50 sheriff etc… .” She reports that they in several turnouts near Bell Springs Road.

UPDATE 11:55 a.m.: The Mendocino County Sheriff Office has posted that they are searching for the missing man.  They wrote, “The search for Robert Hayden continues in the Laytonville area. We appreciate the Mutual Aid agencies that arrived today helping us with additional staff and equipment. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes available.” Here are some images from their post:

It’s a 1000 Acre ranch. The wife of the missing man. Can’t give an accurate direction he went in.
