I was out in Salyer over the weekend. After a day at the pool I was packing out my daughters life jackets, and this beautiful thing decided to make a pit stop!
I love to look at the butterfly pics. And the Moths also. Humboldt has great big moths, I dont know what they are called but they are big and red. Thanks

Lots of Tiger Swallowtails being seen all over Eureka area right now.
We also saw our very first Anise Swallowtail ever in Humboldt, cutting down the dang nab Anise, an Anise Swallowtail caterpillar crawled out.
We found him a nice stand to inhabit. Such beautiful caterpillars and relatively easy to raise, a good project and a whole bunch of lessons for kids too.

I just noticed a Monarch here in my yard, along with many swallowtails. Am I wrong in thinking the Monarchs haven’t been around in the last few years, or am I just more observant these days? Sorry I don’t have any pictures.

My current favorite butterfly photo that I’ve taken.

Trippy!

Lovely!
Lema Ranch in Redding.
What kind of butterfly is that? The bottom spots look like hearts.
Here is one I took the other day, a swallowtail feeding on the carnations
Lovely!
Was enjoying coffee in Carlotta one morning last week 🙂
Beautiful Mardis Gras colors. I believe that is a buddleia bush , aptly nicknamed butterfly bush, that it has lighted upon.
All amazing!good day for these photos.thank you

I took this photo on June 14th at HappyDay Farms, West Forty.
Here’s a photo of a butterfly with wet wings that my Robot rescued from a sink on The Wood Ranch about a week ago 🙂
Swallow tail slurpin up some Tiger Lily Pollen at Del Norte Coast Redwoods, 2011 🙂
