What the Heck Is This Thing?

mystery ship

Sometimes there’s no earthshaking reason to spend a lot of time tracking down a reader’s question BUT we’re curious, too.

And, our readers know a lot so….we’re asking, “What the heck is this thing?” It was photographed by Laurie Jenson in Humboldt Bay two days ago. What could it be used for?

Looks like a fast deployment boat that might be used by navy SEALs.

Naval Special Operations patrol craft. No hull number painted yet must be new and in transit to a home destination.

In case anyone forgot, they are dredging the bay and the jetty. These are the support craft for the dredger. It was in the news weeks ago.

After studying it for quite some time, I have concluded that it is a boat.

The reader that Posted that they are Mark VI patrol boats is right, State of the art. The covered things on decks are gun mounts.

Too new to have anything to do with dredging, and if they did they would have commercial hull numbers..
it IS strange to have brand new unmarked naval vessels there, though…Not really a secure site..
