This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, Humboldt County Deputy Sheriffs responded to the 4000 block of Salmon Creek Rd at the request of Cal Fire to assist with evacuations in the area due to a structure fire, and possible explosive materials on scene. The fire resulted in the total destruction of one structure. No injuries were reported, and no residences were located on the property. CalFire, Humboldt Bay Fire HAZMAT, and Miranda/Salmon Creek Volunteer Fire Departments put out the fire and secured the scene.

DEU responded to investigate, and discovered burnt remains of a Butane Honey Oil (BHO) lab. Marijuana bud/shake, butane canisters, nitrogen tanks, propane tanks, commercial grade ovens, and two commercial grade stainless steel hash extractor tubes were located at the scene.

A subsequent search of the property based on exigent circumstances resulted in the discovery of an extensive marijuana cultivation grow site. A Humboldt County Superior Court search warrant was consequently obtained and served on the property. Deputies with DEU and Drug Task Force (DTF) agents located marijuana growing outdoors, indoors, and inside greenhouses located on the property. Units located and eradicated 2,815 green growing marijuana plants between 6” and 3’ in height.

The owner of the property has been identified. This investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 707-268-2539.

Odd plug on that oven, more like you see in theater lighting. Who knows what the nitrogen is for? Is that a purge gas or for some cold process?

Or inhaling. A lot of these guys are hooked on the hippy crack. Too much money, and literally not enough brain cells…….

While nitrogen is an inert gas, breathing it in concentration will simply kill you. Perhaps in your rush to judge people you confused it with nitrous oxide. Might want to be careful of accusing others of brain cell shortage.

Nitrogen can be used in supercritical hash oil extraction instead of CO2, which is also an inert gas. Both are cleaner without the risk of explosion and fire, but the equipment is more expensive on the front end and less expensive than pure butane.

Also, butane naturally freezes with contact to oxygen, cooling would be very unnecessary.

This is a story I wish would not be associated with Miranda. It’s Salmon Creek not Miranda. Because many residence of Miranda get their mail in Miranda they are from Miranda? Don’t get me wrong the reporting could easily be the other way around but call it what it is. If it’s good news or bad news report it from the community it was generated from. That all.

Um there should be a story about how trashed the river looks in Miranda. It’s gross looking and sloppy. I have a mile of rivet property and you’d have to look hard to see our house. There’s deps on the river right there, so go talk to your neighbors maybe.

So I have to ask: Have you tried that? Talking to the neighbors involved? It’s always my first choice on any issue affecting me and what I perceive as my neighborhood. But, with strangers, I take another (bigger, younger) neighbor with me. So, how’s that working for you?
Sincerely, af

At least there are not huge piles of garbage, chemicals & poisons we so often see. Credit where credit is due. Nice job, too bad about the fire.
(I’m sure the authorities would have taken photos if it was a trash heap)

Greedy growers

Why does the article say that the fire dept put out the fire? It was my understanding that they never tried to fight the fire because it was understandably too dangerous. And they sent a fire man in a few hrs after the event started to see if the building had burned out on its own which it had. Maybe they put out the remaining chars ? And BH there is no reference to this being in the Miranda area in the above Article. The Miranda fire responded, as they do to any emergency in the Miranda, Myersflat, Salmon creek, Weott area.

Incorrect. Get your facts straight before you start spouting out names. I know the owner (1) and that is not the name. Went to high school with him

What about the raids on 36? Multiple Sheriff trucks stuffed with black contractor bags. One truck pulling a chipper. One truck had what looked like butane canisters in the back. CHP and unmarked car as well. This was Wed afternoon, 5/25

Maybe they shoulda made their little laws easier.. one parcel, one script, 25 plants. If you have children, one small dep is allowed. Weed would still be worth 25 a lb and we’d know who was being greedy with it or not

That’s pretty much the standard for Mendo (1 parcel, 25, 1 script) but it’s rumored to be changing to 50, and that worries me… More plants = More big, white trucks carrying people who look away when approached, and everything changes. This is a nervous time for the few remaining old timers…like me. af

I can’t help but be kind of jealous of marijuana growers. I mean, I don’t own property like that to grow. I look at those photos and think “Oh that’s a cool shed. Light dep, indoor, outdoor, wow that must be fun!” When I see that grow I don’t overly see greed. It actually looks reasonable to me. Except the extract setup, there was definitely some error in judgment and expertise there. I’ve put in my time with the Humboldt county drug scene and gotten out. I checked out almost 7 years ago. While I’m no longer fooled by the allure, I do still have my moments of jealousy. I wish I owned property and a house and a cool old shed with lights on the outside.

I wish I owned property too, but these guys have driven up the prices so that those of us who work in normal jobs can’t afford to buy. I am jealous of them too, but only because they have their own property. I could never do their “job” since it is way too much work and looks too difficult for me. I’d rather just work my normal 9 to 5 job and be done with it at the end of the day. Plus, I hate marijuana, so it would never work out. 🙂 I guess that makes me the minority around these parts!
