Major Injury Accident Near Alderpoint Road

Last night at approximately 12:43 a.m., a red sedan was reported over the bank near the Alderpoint Road/Bell Springs intersection. The exact location of the accident is unclear from the description on the California Highway Patrol Incident page but the map below shows the rough area in which it occurred.

The female occupant was reported to be out of the vehicle but both she and the vehicle were a long distance over the embankment. At approximately, 4:30 a.m. the California Highway Patrol reported that this was a major injury incident.

Saw two tow trucks trying to retrieve something from far down the east side of the Alderpoint road about 1/2 mile towards Alderpoint from the point in your image ( which is the Harris/Alderpoint road junction.) About 11:45 a.m. but couldn’t stop to get photo (sorry) as I was en route to court and on a tight schedule. Probably the red car, I imagine.

On the way home today I passed the site again, skid marks on the road where they dragged the car up from the stream bed about 70 feet below. The people in that car are lucky to be alive. I spoke with some people there who said that the driver may have swerved to avoid a deer. I don’t want to be contrarian, but there would have been less damage (except to the deer) if the driver had just hit it. Lesson here: if you swerve to miss a deer, always swerve towards the uphill side of the road. I have a photo of the skid marks, but it’s not very dramatic and it won’t upload off my phone, so you’ll have to take my word for it being a boring picture.
