Rio Dell Hosts Training Burn
This morning, the Eel River Valley Fire Academy helped host a structure fire training burn at 95 Center Street in Rio Dell, at the Rio Dell Middle School. The training burn started at 8:00 AM with an estimated end time of approximately 2:00 PM. The training consisted of multiple interior firefighting evolutions by the new recruits followed by demolition of the structure. Today’s participants included recruits from Fieldbrook, Westhaven, Fortuna, Scotia, and Rio Dell Fire Departments as well as the California Conservation Corps.
The structure was donated by the Rio Dell School District and the fire was approved by the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District. The training burn provided new fire fighters with a chance to experience live fire and use their newly acquired skills obtained from from the Eel River Valley Fire Academy.
This final exercise wraps up the intensive seven week Eel River Valley Fire Academy where recruits learned important fire and rescue skills they can now use in their own communities.
Involved agencies want to give a special thanks to Eel River Scrap & Salvage, Leonardo Logging, C W Wood Products, CNK Mechanic’s, Round Table Pizza, and all the Fire Department volunteers for their support.
