[UPDATE 9:38 a.m.]Shots Exchanged During a Home Invasion in Fieldbrook Area This Morning

This is the old oneA residence on the 1100 block of Sawdust Trail in the Fieldbrook area was the scene of a home invasion early this morning, according to Selena Zorrilla-Mendoza spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

The male and female residents of a home reported about 3:16 a.m. that a suspect had entered their house armed with a weapon. According to Zorrilla-Mendoza, “The male victim had a firearm as well as the suspect. They shot at each other” and the suspect fled the scene. Neither of the residents were injured.

“It is not believed the suspect was injured at this time,” Zorrilla-Mendoza stated.

Detectives are still on the scene conducting interviews, she said. “It is under investigation how the suspect gained entry. It is unknown if anything was taken.”

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 3:16 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a home invasion that just occurred on the 1100 block of Sawdust Trail in Fieldbrook. It was reported that the male victim and male suspect both had firearms and shot at each other multiple times.

Upon arrival, deputies met with the male victim and female victim. The victims told deputies a male suspect entered their residence. The male victim and the suspect shot at each other multiple times. The victims told deputies the suspect then fled the residence.

Deputies searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect. The victims were unsure if items were taken. The victims did not receive gunshot wounds due to the shooting. There was no evidence indicating the suspect was injured. This case is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

You know it Ernie I grew up when the rifle range was the road that lead down to the river bar before you got to the old briceland bridge back in the early seventys with my best friend Johnny cox . I don’t think they wanted to kill each other .I would have at least winged him .

How dare this (Civilian) protect himself. The second amendment is not for a individuals self protection, it to insure sportsmen’s ability to hunt and target shoot. Next time this surf woops I mean (Civilian) should lock him self in his bead room and call a (Government Official) to do there ordained job. I mean the robber woops socially impaired person might have been hurt.
