Did You Know There’s a Magnificent Manor Designed by a Famous Architect Located Near Benbow?

We often celebrate the natural beauties both wildlife and landscape of our community but today we are going to look at a little known man-made treasure. On Saturday, the owners of the Julia Morgan house by Benbow offered tea and tours of the historic estate. The first woman architect to be licensed in California, Julia Morgan designed hundreds of structures in the state including Hearst Castle.

From flowers to furniture, the estate is lovely and we have few photos to prove it. Intrigued? You can go see the place yourself. Tours are available year round by appointment. (See here for details)

Speaking of Benbow, they do have a Mother’s Day brunch… too late for this year, but maybe next year! It is such a beautiful place.

I was inside this house about 7 years ago, as a Realtor/ Broker I did a head to toe inspection, it was for sale asking price 6.5 million. antiques included, only 4 acres of land. but no swimming pool, bummer, at that price I want a pool. but I am sure if you can afford this you can also afford to put in a pool.
Now that the lake is drained it is probably worth a lot less.

From the looks of it she got all her inspiration from benbow inn as she drove by it. Over priced and over hyped.

I helped set up a some tents in the backyard for a Save the Redwoods fund raiser. Very nice but not the funnest driveway to pull a trailer.

I’m pretty sure she also designed the four sided fireplace in Women’s Federation Grove, just below South Fork.

We did the tour on Saturday… The present owners were gracious hosts and the improvements and remodels are beautifully done.. It was nice to know that they often used craftspeople from our area.. I found the lighting fixtures to be remarkably beautiful.. It made a great day for us..

♫ What do the simple folk do
To help them escape when they’re blue?
The shepard who is ailing, the milkmaid who is glum
The cobbler who is wailing from nailing his thumb ♫
