Would You Cross This Bridge?

A walk on the quiet side…Near Myers Flat at the bottom of Whitlow Road where Sonoma Creek joins the north fork main stem of the Eel River, a little used path crosses a train trestle.

Through the slats the water can be seen far below.

Would you cross this bridge?

John Sheridan, the videographer, did.

yes, I would cross it. Very familiar with RR bridges, used to run across them when I was a kid. Boy is there a lot of ugly sediment in that stream below!

I got confused at the “north fork near Myers Flat”. I have to go look at a map now.

Oops, I agree, the Main Stem. The Middle Fork joins the Main Stem above Dos Rios

That’s where I grow up as a child. Love the the old orchards and train tracks and the tunnel.

Its not a path, though, its just the sides of the tracks covered with duff and debris. Not really designed to walk on..

It’s strong enough to hold up the heavy tracks . I’m sure it’s safe enough to chance it .

When I lived down there the train was still running.

I’ve been over it many times on the train, but never walked it. If you want to get scared, walk through the Island Mountain tunnel. I did that only once. Almost a mile long. Thanks for the memories!

We used to cross the trestle at Steelhead creek up the river towards Alderpoint. Very disconcerting looking down, but a wonderful swimming hole and the remnants of an old fishing resort made it worth crossing. That was in the 70s when the train was still running. Fond memories

Oh yes! The trestle at Steelhead was very daunting!

Pretty sure you have to trespass on private property to get to this bridge…let’s not encourage people to go searching for places like this unless you know for sure there is public access.
