Keys to the Jail Located During Probation Search, Says Sheriff’s Department

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

201601336 AlexanderOn Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at approximately 10:18 p.m., Humboldt County Deputy Sheriffs conducted a probation search at a residence on the 2200 block of Hillcrest St, in Myrtletown. Deputies contacted three subjects at the residence, 22 year old Jessica Michelle Alexander, 27 year old Ashlee Anne Page, and a 28 year old male. Deputies located items that were confirmed as stolen from a Eureka Police Department case, as well as controlled substances and keys possibly belonging to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. It was later confirmed the keys did indeed belong to the HCCF.

Alexander was taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where she was booked for possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of instruments for ingesting controlled substances. Her bail was set at $25,000. Due to minors being in the residence, deputies issued a citation to Page for her warrant and possession of stolen property.

Anyone with information for the Sheriff’s Office regarding this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at 707-268-2539.

Uh cops better check their peeps, sounds like theres a thief or two selling or stealing things from the jail. Maybe thats where all the nice stuff they take when they bust you goes to. I know the local cops are corrupt but really????
Someone could be in jail because of missing evidence, the police depts may be taking evidence to make a case have a certain outcome. It happens alot. Or our two corrupt judges having evidence “lost”?
Or maybe this is how all the drugs get into the jail, someone with a key opening a door to hand off or something.
Either way I wouldn’t be surprised to see a state or fed investigation, how can sheriffs answer for a list jail key&missing evidence??

How does the sheriff explain the keys being in possession of these young people?????
Do the correctional officers not report missing or stolen keys?
I’d like an outside party to investigate this situation due to the ones that run the place just sweep this sort of issue right under the rug!
Let’s hear an explanation please!

Missing keys to the jail? That’s ridiculous. If security keys go missing it should be noticed on the SAME day and a very rigorous check is made to locate them. If someone loses important master keys ALL keys have to be re-made. This is basic security management for a facility like a tall building, nevermind a fucking county jail.

If the sheriff’s office was not aware of these missing keys and is unable to produce reports demonstrating their response to these keys going missing then HEADS NEED TO ROLL.

Can’t believe this isn’t a bigger story and of course, you’ll see the buck passed when it ever comes to accountability or responsibility from those that are supposed to be “protecting and serving” the public at large.

The following excerpt was extracted from an internal Sheriff Department document that may have been found in the possession of a jail trustee responsible for office maintenance in the Sheriff’s Office.

INTERNAL MEMO

Always remember that if the Department controls access to all departmental information, the risk of undesirable content getting out into the public arena will be greatly minimized. As an official of the Department you can always deny knowledge of potentially inflammatory content concerning departmental matters. One of our most powerful tools to deny access to information is to simply reply that the “matter” is currently under investigation and that to disclose information to the public would threaten the integrity of the investigation.

If individuals continue to prod for information it is best to collect as much information on the party as possible. Collect the individuals full name, year of birth, his/her address, his/her employer, his/her make, model, year, and license of their automobile, and any other intrusive information that might cause discomfort to the individual. Most critically, let the inquiring party know who is in charge, who is the boss. If they continue to raise questions and choose to not move along another tool is to threaten arrest for loitering, disturbing the peace or some other construction that is actionable by department officers. Sometimes merely the threat of running a records check on the individual is sufficient to deter nosy citizens. Remember, as officers, we always have the right to detain an individual without arrest. We can place them in cuffs and let them have a seat to think things over. Generally when presented with such an option the individual will cease and desist and ultimately move along.

Someone well versed in the law wrote this so it’s highly unlikely it came from law enforcement sources.

This, at least in part, is satire.

However, it is not much of departure from reality.

Sheriff Downey has current Sheriff deputies and others within the Humboldt County administration that took pay offs for years from growers. Seen it with my own two eyes. Like the current Coroner Ernie Stewart who took pay offs when he lived out by Honeydew from local growers. Why don’t you ask the good Sheriff about his late good pal CPA Jimmy Eddy in Garberville, who cooked the books and made many in SoHum rich by hiding illegal drug profits. Or my personal witness to Sheriff’s deputies loading small planes full of confiscated cannabis in the middle of the night aboard planes flown into the Redway airport by German nationals in 1994. I was James McKittrick’s last client, in jail on a trumped up charge because my former girlfriend ripped my roommates off on a dope deal; they in turn blamed me for stealing things they themselves gave me. After years of coke and meth abuse, she is now a teacher in Texas, can you believe that? And they had a celebration for McKittrick after he died, did the good lawyers and judges of Humboldt. Not because they cared about McKittrick but because he died with his dirty secrets about corruption in Humboldt. Well, he told me some of those secrets before he died. And then of course, there’s the whole “Sex, Lies and Videotape” thing with the Drug Task Forces in both Humboldt and Del Norte. Crooked as the day is long but they’ll drag you into to court where they don’t care about the truth, only on how to profit from the obfuscation of the truth.
