UPDATE 3/12: Update from Arcata Fire:
(Arcata, CA) – March 12, 2016 – Arcata Fire District’s generator has been returned. Late Friday evening Arcata Police Department (APD) received a call from the person suspected of taking the generator. He stated he was leaving the generator at a specific location near Arcata. An APD officer went to the location and found the generator and contacted Arcata Fire District. We then sent our Duty Officer out to the location to meet with the APD officer and recovered the generator.
“The return of the generator was likely caused by the wide coverage of the theft in the media” stated Fire Chief Desmond Cowan. The photos and video footage of the theft clearly shows the suspect checking the generator and immediate area multiple times before cutting the lock, leaving, and then returning to tow the generator away. “It’s great to see the support from our community in a situation like this” Chief Cowan added.
Arcata Police Department is continuing to work this investigation. The suspect was driving an older model gold or tan Suburban with mismatched wheels and tinted windows. The suspect is a white male, bald and appears to be middle aged. If anyone knows or has any information regarding this person or vehicle please contact Arcata Police Department at 707-822-2428 or Arcata Fire District at 707-825-2000.
